MACEA DONATES TO PHILIPPINE NATIONAL POLICE

Extending a hand of assistance to our fellow human is an instinct that is naturally hardwired in our system. That is the reason why, as humans, we are driven to help others, regardless of the amount. Sometimes, that last morsel to sustain oneself is also given away to the more unfortunate people because of the desire to help.

Last December 2021, Makati Central Estate Association (MACEA) initiated another humanitarian act towards the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the form of donation of various equipment such as rechargeable search light, mega phone, helmet, external hard drive and computer printer. These equipment will be needed in the preparation of the Makati PNP for the upcoming National and Local Elections in 2022.

Also, this is one way of showing appreciation to the Makati PNP as they are a part of maintaining the security, peace and order in the CBD.

MACEA HOLDS MOBILE BLOOD DONATION ACTIVITY

MACEA, in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross spearheaded a mobile blood donation activity last December 7, 2021, 9:00 AM held at the 3rd level, Legazpi Car Park Building, V.A. Rufino cor. Legazpi St., Makati City.

Collected 54 bags of blood from the employees of MACEA and service providers who volunteered to donate, the activity was successful as mentioned by Jonathan Cavas, PRC attending Donor Recruitment Officer.

Blood donation is an altruistic act as it fulfills an individual’s moral duty and social responsibility to be able to extend a helping hand to those who need it. As the activity’s title, “Give Blood, Save Lives”, for every person who is able to donate blood, another person will be given another chance at life. The said activity met its main objective which is to help and support the mission of the Philippine Red Cross.

THE GIFT OF GIVING: MACEA visits Chosen Children Village

Having the opportunity to share love to a stranger is an innate obligation of humans. It is even more special if a child or an elderly were to receive love from someone who is not a blood relative. After all, love revolves around helping each other.

Last October 29, 2021, MACEA gave gifts to the children of Chosen Children Village Foundation, Inc. located at Silang Cavite.

The village is a home to abandoned children who are physically and mentally challenged. Despite this, the foundation aims to provide a permanent home for these children and help them to ultimately become independent and be able to attain a more meaningful, productive and satisfying way of life.

In conclusion, being able to bring joy to these wonderful children was enough reason for MACEA to continue their humanitarian projects.

IT’S A JVP CHRISTMAS: JAIME VELASQUEZ PARK HOSTS ANTICIPATED SIMBANG GABI & CHRISTMAS EVE MASS

Embellished with dazzling lights and eye-catching lanterns, the Jaime Velasquez Park during the evening is truly a remarkable sight.

Last December 15 to 23, 2021 at 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Makati Central Estate Association, Inc. (MACEA) organized and held the Anticipated Simbang Gabi and the Christmas Eve Mass on December 24, 2021. The said events were initiated as part of the christmas festivities in the city.

Retractable tents and plastic chairs were also placed throughout the area were the mass was held in order to bring comfort to the visitors.

MAYOR ABBY TALKS ABOUT THE MAKATI CITY VACCINATION PROGRAM

On March 24 and June 23, 2021, a meeting with Mayor Abby Binay was held for the purpose of enumerating the news and updates about the vaccination program in Makati City.

It was reported that all the 300 doses of Sinovac vaccines allotted by the national government for the city was used up on Day 1 of COVID-19 vaccination roll out. The mayor also emphasized that the city’s P1-billion budget for the purchase of the vaccines, including the already purchased one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, together with those vaccines procured by the national government is enough to cover all the people in Makati.

The official announcement that the vaccines will include employees of all registered businesses in the city, regardless of their residency was also discussed along with the qualifications for the free vaccine.

Another agenda dealt with in the meeting was the handling of the medical expenses and hospital bills of the residents and non-residents in case of adverse events, linked to the vaccine. The Yellow Card Program and Philhealth, together with the Malasakit Financial Assistance from DOH will be the ones to cover the expenses of the affected individual, resident or non-resident, respectively.

The discussion of the City Ordinance No. 2021-094 or the COVID-19 Vaccination Site Standardization Protocol and Registration Process was also done, stating the requirement for private firms to submit their registration of vaccination sites to the Office of the City Administrator in order to ensure that the standards set by DOH are strictly followed. The requirements which are reviewed by the Makati COVID-19 Vaccination Site Quality Assurance Team was also brought up during the meeting.

In connection with this, the administration of more than 50,000 doses of vaccines provided by the national government to Makatizens under the A1 to A3 priority groups identified by the DOH, was disclosed. One of the key topics of the meeting that was raised was the recent establishment of the Vaccine On-The-Go (Vax OTG), the first drive-thru vaccination site in the country, in partnership with Ayala Corporation and AC Health.

In conclusion, the meetings highlighted the proper and safe storage of the vaccines in the biomedical refrigerators and laboratory freezers, housed in a vaccine depot at the City Hall quadrangle. As for the queries of the people, the city mayor, together with the medical experts on infectious diseases and vaccination, has launched an information campaign, stressing the necessity of getting vaccinated. An online registration portal has also been put up to accommodate the people who will receive a vaccine shot.

DINNER WITH NATURE: Makati Al Fresco Parklets

In order to continue helping and supporting the restaurants in MCBD, MACEA and Make It Makati has taken the initiative to spearhead the Makati al fresco parklets in which the street parking spaces in front of establishments are converted as temporary al fresco / outdoor dining of restaurants during MECQ.

This initiative is held every Friday to Sunday, subject to the Design and Standard Guidelines, together with the continuous implementation of COVID safety protocols.

Additionally, the available street parking spaces in Legaspi Village and Salcedo Village is closed to vehicle parking every Thursday to Sunday at 8:00 pm whilst the temporary al fresco dining is ongoing. Rest assured, other parking facilities within the said villages will still be available for residents and patrons of the establishments.

Makati Street Meet takes over Rada and Leviste Streets

LET’S MEET ON SUNDAY:

As the famous saying goes, “Sunday clears away the rust of the whole week”. Indeed, Sunday is the most suitable day to refresh after a life-sucking week has passed. Be it a day to just let loose and relax, stay at the comforts of your own home OR do the opposite; go out, put on your best sneakers, try something out of the blue, get a taste of new flavors and explore places. What’s good? You don’t have to look far and wide just to experience this ’cause Makati offers this kind of thingamajig.

The Ayala Land Estates, Inc., in collaboration with Mercato Centrale has launched a Makati Street Meet around the year 2019. The said street meet happens at Rada and Leviste streets every Sunday. Unfortunately, due to the global health crisis and the on-going spread of COVID-19, street meets had to be suspended. Then came the introduction to the public of Al fresco dining, in order to help out the F&B community of Makati. Establishments are featured and services were upgraded, giving off a posh dining vibe. Following strictly the IATF safety protocols, the event has been a go-to for many during Sundays, perfect for spending time with loved-ones.

Ensuring Health and Safety for the community

This year has brimming with challenges, but our communities continue to weave through with life. Together with the administration and the people of Brgy. Bel-Air, MaCEA has donated and distributed vaccines for both Pneumonia and the Flu for the people and communities in Salcedo Village. Medical professionals and volunteers conducted the inoculation of the vaccines.

In prevention to the increase of COVID-19 cases, Rapid testing was conducted at the Corinthian Carpark in Barangay San Lorenzo around May 2020. Workers have lined up following the safety protocols as mandated by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. Health check-ups were also conducted for MACEA frontliners to ensure their safety.

NATURE ON WALLS: The New Wall Mural and Elevated Walkway

PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc, together with the Makati Commercial Estate Association (MaCEA), with the support of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, had expanded the PLDT-Smart Gabay Kalikasan Street Mural by the “artivist”, AG Saño.

“The general state of the environment did not improve in 2020. Wildlife population is still diminishing. As environmental street artists, we want to keep on creating images of nature to keep nature’s beauty in the consciousness of the daily urban pedestrian,” said Saño.

The street mural, concentrating on nature, was created to raise awareness on climate change. MaCEA continuously aims for the constant transformation and reinvention of the city, with the environment as its key center. In order to execute these goals, Makati’s civic body has made the central business district pedestrian-friendly and well-connected. The transformation of the neighborhood into an art center will pave way to an extraordinary and vibrant sight in the midst of a business district.

Furthermore, PLDT Group actively ensures that it uses energy responsibly as they are considered the country’s largest integrated telecommunications company with energy as a necessary resource to deliver their services. The group also aims to protect the planet through technology-based carbon footprint offsetting programs due to greenhouse gas emissions arising from energy consumed by its network in operation, establishments and transport. Including in the initiative are the reforestation, marine protection, mangroves preservation, and peatlands conservation that leverage on digital innovations and PLDT-Smart’s network.

The pillars that make up the company’s Sustainability Framework are the Effective Environmental Stewardship, which Gabay Kalikasan represents, Awesome Customer Experience, Quality of Service, Growth-driven Innovation, Responsible and Efficient Operations, Excellence through Human Capital, Positive Community Impact and Good Governance & Ethical Business Practices

Not only active in maintaining the integrity of the section, as the most desirable business and commercial area in the Philippines, but also in raising environmental awareness, MaCEA, indeed, gets the job done.

Japanese garden in Washington SyCip Park beckons

we cordially invite you to pay a visit to the Washington SyCip Park in Legazpi Village, a green spot in the midst of an urban jungle where you can repair to, spend quiet time for meditation or take a breath of fresh air,
away from the madding crowd.

Enjoy its newest offering—the Tsuruki-En Japanese garden, where you
are instantly transported to a place steeped in beauty (of form, line and earth colors), a cultural space rich in the symbols of Japanese Zen gardens—the crane, symbol of longevity and good luck; and the turtle,
symbol of peace and safety.

A gift to Mr. Washington SyCip by Security Bank, represented by its Chairman
Emeritus Mr. Frederick Dy, and Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), represented by its Managing Executive for Asia and Oceania, Mr. Takayoshi Futae, the garden concretizes the harmonious relations between Japan and the Philippines that has stood strong for decades.

Inaugurated on February 14, 2017, it rode on yet another symbol—Valentine, shining a light on the love between the Japanese and Filipino people, and between the two nations. The garden aims to promote people-to-people ties and crosscultural connections, while the partnership between the corporate sponsors—Security Bank and MUFG—reinforces the business and economic bonds that hold the two countries together.

The event was graced by Japanese Ambassador Kasuhide Ishikawa, Ayala Group Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Security Bank Chairman Alberto Villarosa, Makati Mayor Abigail Binay-Campos, and the honoree, Mr. Washington SyCip.

It is worthy of note that the park is named after Mr. SyCip, founder of SGV & Company, in recognition of his invaluable contributions to Philippine business and society.

Whichever part of Makati CBD you live or work in, you will find a stroll to the park and a quiet time in the Japanese garden worth every moment of your effort and time.

MaCEA makes donation to enable the disabled

MaCEA exercised its corporate social responsibility (CSR) in May by extending a handof assistance to the Gintong Landas Project 2017 of the Create a Job for the Disabled Association, Inc., (CJDA) a charitable organization engaged in programs and services that help persons with disability (PWD) help themselves .

The help, meant to help enable the disabled, was in the form of a donation of assistive devices that enable a PWD to become mobile and independent. It consisted of ten wheelchairs – five standard and five pediatric, ten single cane T handles, eight quad canes, and five two-in-one walkers, all costing P50,000.

The recipient organization’s programs include providing its beneficiaries with opportunitiesfor employment, free medical and dental services,
a supplemental feeding program, and motivational development—polio and stroke patients, children with cerebral palsy, foot with a more legible sans serif font, a graphic element that sports the common colors of the new MaCEA logo and the “Make it Makati” brand, and are reflectorized for
easier readability at night. The old signs in the streets in Legazpi Village, Salcedo Village and Apartment Ridge will be replaced with the new ones soon. The wayfinding system also includes directional signs to various major places in the MCBD. The signs so far posted are strategically placed along Ayala Avenue and in the underpasses. amputees, and the blind, epileptic, and orthopedically handicapped.

Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA)

In preparation for the feared earthquake expected in the West Valley Fault that runs through many parts of the metro and neighboring provinces, the MMDA staged the Shake Drill and Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP) in the MaCEA area two times—the first on June 15, the second on June 22.

On both occasions, occupants of buildings in Legazpi Village were directed to stream out of their buildings in an orderly manner and gather at the Legazpi Active Park. The annual exercise is expected to condition the minds of people to the possibility of a major tremor and train them to behave with calmness and reason should it happen.

Rotary Club of Makati

We share the interest of environment advocates in the global wave of concern for the cause of Mother Earth and the urgent need for all inhabitants of our planet to contribute to efforts to shine a light on this cause and help mitigate the damage humankind has wrought.

It was in this regard that we partnered with the Rotary Club of Makati in its Air Quality Monitoring System Project that called for the installation of an air monitoring station on the sidewalk of Parkway Drive and Ayala Avenue. The device, one of four in the metro, measures air quality in real time on a 24-hour basis and transmits readings to the public via an app for both iOS and Android devices.

Utilities & Telecoms Companies

We strive to maintain close cooperative ties with the companies that serve the basic needs of an urban development entity—Meralco for electricity, Manila Water for water, PLDT for landline and internet service, and Globe and Smart for mobile connectivity.
We are pleased with the working relationship we have with these companies and we thank them for delivering service we can count on.

Makati City Government

We provided support to the Department of Environmental Services of Makati City by enjoining MaCEA members to take active part in two Greenhouse Gas Inventory Workshops, the first on October 27, in Barangay Hall of San Lorenzo, and second on November 8, in Barangay Hall of Bel-Air.

Mayor Abigail Campos was a special guest at the inauguration of the Elevated Walkway extension in November and again at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Japanese Garden at the Washington SyCip Park in Legazpi Village in December.

Makati Parking Authority (MAPA)

MAPA and MaCEA remain steadfast partners in the task of preserving the gains and pushing the growth goals of the Makati CBD.

As the entity responsible for crafting policy and implementing parking and traffic rules in the district, MAPA continues to operate the Traffic Management Center. It is equipped with powerful CCTV cameras positioned in strategic locations that are connected to a wall of TV screens at the TMC operational base, where trained operators monitor vehicular flows and, if called for, act to untangle traffic jams and slow down or speed up the movement of vehicles.

In a bid to ease traffic in Salcedo Village, MAPA operatives have seen it fit to relocate the food vending jolly-jeeps along De la Costa St. to the side streets. It was also for the same purpose that MAPA stopped the use of Valero St. as a terminal for loading passengers by UV Express vans plying the Antipolo/Pasig-Makati routes. Loading has been moved to designated points along Ayala Avenue, with loading periods per vehicle limited to half a minute to prevent traffic buildup on this major street.

MAPA enforcers routinely make the rounds of the streets to issue parking tickets, collect parking fees, impose penalties on violators, and generally to enforce parking rules.

NETWORKING: Barangays Bel-Air, San Lorenzo and Urdaneta

As part of the political jurisdiction of said barangays, MaCEA has maintained close ties with barangay officials and nurtured harmonious working relations with them.

Bel-Air and San Lorenzo have lent the Association a hand with traffic, road lighting, and road maintenance. In the year under review, the two barangays undertook asphalt overlay work on nearly 18,000 sqm of roads—12,320 sqm on Valero St. in Salcedo Village by Brgy. Bel-Air, completed in September; and 5640 sqm on Gallardo, De la Rosa and Esteban Sts. in Legazpi Village by Brgy. Legazpi Village, finished in October.

The two barangays continue to use MaCEA parks for their thriving weekend markets—Jaime Velasquez Park by Brgy. Bel-Air on Saturdays, the Legazpi Car Park by Brgy. San Lorenzo on Sundays. Both weekend bazaars have succeeded in growing their respective bases of loyal vendors and shoppers and proven themselves profitable commercial enterprises.

Brgy. San Lorenzo provided a venue for activities of the MMDA and the Makati Department of Emergency Services, and in December dressed up the Active Park with the spirit of the season by illuminating it with Christmas lights.

On the other hand, Brgy. Bel-Air occasionally makes use of the Jaime Velasquez Park as the venue for its cultural and fund-raising activities.
